51st ART&ANTIQUE Hofburg Vienna

TWICE NINETY, ONCE ONE HUNDRED: LASSNIG, RAINER, BRAUER

Art celebrates its masters. Also in 2019. After all, three particularly important personalities in Austrian 20th- and 21st-century art celebrated round birthdays this year, and of course this is also reflected in the offerings of the ART&ANTIQUE Hofburg Vienna.

Proven to be the best for the 50th time running: The ART&ANTIQUE event at Hofburg Vienna

The biographies of many exhibitors at the ART&ANTIQUE event in Hofburg, Vienna, which came to a close on Sunday, show how to make 50 successful appearances at Vienna’s most important art, antiquities and design exhibition.

“If you move with the times a little and don’t lose sight of traditions but still react to market trends, then you can keep at it for another half a century or more,” the exhibition organiser Alexandra Graski-Hoffmann explains.

50th ART&ANTIQUE Hofburg Vienna

ART&ANTIQUE takes place for the 50th time from November 10 to 18, 2018.

“Art cannot be modern; art is eternal.” Egon Schiele wrote that on a watercolour showing two armchairs when he was imprisoned in Neulengbach in 1912.

When ART&ANTIQUE takes place for the 50th time from November 10 to 18, this is also the 50th anniversary of a feast for the arts which must live up to Schiele’s motto at Vienna’s Hofburg. For half a century, ART&ANTIQUE has presented the most well-known and prominent art dealers in the country and selected international exhibitors – this year, there are 46 – showing objects ranging from antiquity to our own days. While that is not eternity, it is an anniversary to be proud of. It coincides fortuitously with the retrospective on 100 years of Viennese modernism.

The 2018 programme of ART&ANTIQUE therefore focuses particularly on the groundbreaking accomplishments of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Otto Wagner and Koloman Moser.
